“7 Tips for Producing Effective Law Firm Videos”

Hi Lawyers. Today I’m sharing 7 tips for producing effective law firm videos.

But first! Some exciting news!

I’m honored to be speaking (at the end of March) at The Injury Board Conference in Tampa Florida (2023). Yes, it’s coming right up!

The Injury Board is an association of experienced trial attorneys practicing throughout the United States and the United Kingdom. Their members, staunch proponents of the civil justice system and consumer rights, pride themselves on being part of a select group that includes only the best of the best — past, present and future leaders of various trial bar organizations as well as board certified attorneys.

In fact, Injury Board has 9 Past (and present) A.A.J. presidents.

One of my favorite tid-bits about the conference is that at the end everyone pitches in on a community service event. I love that.

I’m already working out my cutting-edge talk! I’ll keep you posted! Please check out the Injury Board website to see if you’re a fit for the conference. Or just sign up!

And now (*insert announcer voice over) … on with our regularly scheduled tip:

Yes it’s Mary Cary again… your legal marketing director, website developer and video production expert showing up regularly and weekly for you for nearly a year!

In the past, lawyers were generally not allowed to advertise their services. This was based on the idea that the practice of law was a profession, not a business, and that allowing lawyers to advertise would lead to unethical behavior and undermine the integrity of the profession.

However, this changed in the United States in 1977, when the Supreme Court ruled in the case of Bates v. State Bar of Arizona that lawyers have a First Amendment right to advertise their services. Since then, lawyers have been allowed to advertise, subject to certain bar association restrictions.

Here are 7 tips for producing successful law firm videos:

  1. Define your goals: Before starting to produce a video, it’s important to define what you want to accomplish with the video. Do you want to showcase your firm’s expertise on a particular legal topic, or do you want to provide an overview of your firm’s services? Having clear goals will help guide the content and messaging of your video.
  2. Choose a compelling topic: Select a topic that will be interesting and informative to your target audience in your practice area. Consider using data or research to support your points and make your video more compelling.
  3. Keep it brief: In general, it’s a good idea to keep your videos as brief as possible while still providing valuable information. Most people’s attention spans are limited, so aim to keep your videos to under 5 minutes if possible. Now 5 minutes is not considered brief, there are short movies that are 5 minutes long. But our best performing Facebook and YouTube ads tend to do a pretty deep dive into what a potential client is facing and what to do next.
  4. One Subject Per Video: Make sure not to talk about more than one subject per video but link them to the next video subject to keep them engaged.
  5. Use high-quality visuals: Use professional-quality video and audio equipment, as well as visually appealing graphics and imagery, to make your video look and sound professional.
  6. Have a clear call to action: At the end of your video, be sure to include a clear call to action for viewers to take the next step, whether it’s visiting your website, signing up for a newsletter, or contacting your firm for more information.
  7. Promote your video: Once your video is complete, be sure to promote it through your website and social media channels to help increase its reach and visibility.
