LAWYERS: How are TV Videos Different from Online Videos?

Lawyers! How are TV videos different from Online videos for your law firm?

Today I’m going to outline how TV videos are different from online videos. You might think video is video is video! But that is simply not the case! That would be like saying all lawyers are the same and a divorce lawyer can handle your trucking accident case. The difference between TV video and Online video can be an important distinction!

Your Approach will Vary

When I first started shooting law firm videos, search optimizing and building their websites back in 2008, lawyers thought TV video was different than online video. I’m not sure how or why that got started – but it was a good thing for me, because I had this wonderful opportunity to shoot “online videos” and once they realized it was the same thing, I directed hundreds of TV commercials too.

But guess what – saying TV video is different from Online video is just like saying a violin is different than a fiddle (and this is where watching the video over reading will be better).

But the differences between TV and online video are not about the lighting, audio, lenses or cameras! The difference between TV video and Online video is the content you’re creating.

With TV you need to interrupt a big group of disinterested people, and with online sometimes you’re interrupting a disinterested group of people, and sometimes you’re creating videos that are highly targeted. So you need to know the frame of mind of your audience and create your videos accordingly.

Here’s what I mean…

INTERRUPTION BASED VIDEO

When you’re interrupting potential clients, make your videos more like TV commercials so they grab the viewer’s attention. Platforms like YouTube have interruption based online videos.

TARGETED VIDEO

When creating targeted videos to get say, trucking accident clients, mass torts, or pharmaceutical cases, be sure your content is highly specific, educational and a bit longer so you can help those potential clients off the fence.

TODAY’S ANSWER

So yes, there is a significant difference, and that’s your audience. While I’m calling it “online video” and “tv” the real differences are who your audience is and their frame of mind.

And the only difference between a violin and a fiddle is you can’t spill beer in a fiddle… but that’s another story.

I met Mary Cary when she was speaking at a Conference. She said YouTube was the 2nd biggest search engine in the world. I wasn’t utilizing the second biggest search engine in the world. We filmed over a hundred videos with Mary. She built our website when we had 2 employees, at this point in time, we have over 120 employees! Thank you!

I have had GoMedia Marketing film engineering firms all over the United States for us all around the area of STEM Careers. We also have them build our websites and marketing strategies. Mary Cary went with a crew to film Dean Kamen and his young engineers in New Hampshire twice. We’re very happy with their kindness and help.

Go Media Marketing has top class support, Ned helped me understand how using video matters. Once we grew bigger we had Go Media Marketing do our videos – & blog for us. Mary Cary came to film us in Nebraska and I also came out to film with GoMedia Marketing in Sausalito. I stayed in San Francisco. Thank you! Highly recommended!

I have worked on a number of projects with Mary. Mary built a stunning website for the San Diego market which she then search optimized.  It was different and original rather than something cheap looking from an iphone. We wanted the ability to film anytime. Mary and her team came to us on site and built a video studio. She taught us about gear, sound, lighting, scripting, presentation and how to present on camera. When her program was completed she left the tools and know-how to produce professional in-house marketing videos for any platform at anytime. Mary is a pro and you will love working with her.
