What was in Part 1 and Part 2 of this Series about Facebook Ads?

In the first 2 parts of this series, I outlined 2 strategies.

Strategy One was for practice areas where they urgently need a lawyer and they know it!

Strategy Two is where they need more educating and follow up.

But no matter the strategy, what video content actually works to get clients on facebook? Not just any video will work and you might be surprised!

Facebook Ads are Not Lawyer TV Commercials

Many of you might produce TV ads, and I’ll venture to say all of us have seen lawyer TV ads.

A short while ago I was in a hotel in Pennsylvania watching cable TV for the first time in a while, and it was surprising how many ads run for lawyers. I produce TV ads so I was going crazy critiquing them all! (that’s another story)…

And lots of lawyers who come to me for video production (and I’ve directed, written and filmed thousands of lawyer videos for just about purpose), want something kind of TV-like. But I’m here to say save your money and do this right if you want clients.

What’s the right Content for Law Firm Facebook Video Ads?

Facebook is not TV. TV ads do not work well on Facebook.

TV ads are usually 30 second spots. They often can (and probably should be) entertaining.

But Facebook ads, generally should not be short or entertaining… Unless your goal is entertainment.

But if you want clients and you haven’t been on TV for years, stick to educational.

What length for Law Firm Facebook Video Ads?

So TV spots are usually 30 seconds. I would steer clear of the 30 second mark at all costs.

If your ad is 30 seconds, it gets skipped over by even your potential clients. (I have the data to prove this)

My theory is that we’ve been programmed to feel like it’s advertising at 30 seconds.

What content for Law Firm Facebook Video Ads?

Online videos ought to run longer. In fact, the best performing Facebook ad of all time I wrote and directed, was nearly 2 minutes long.

It wasn’t entertaining and it addressed what people should do next when needing a lawyer in that practice area.

And in my 2nd video in this series, I talked about your creating lots of follow up. That content needs to be highly educational. There’s so much they do not know about what you do, or what they are up against. This is your chance to build trust by sharing the behind the scenes that they don’t have any clue about.

One of my favorite videos for a bicycle accident attorney in California was where I filmed the victim of the accident.

After interviewing him for a bit, I got out of him that he had no idea that his own health insurance company would take part of his settlement.

This was something that experienced lawyers would know about and they’d fight to help keep more of the settlement in his pocket.

Who knew? Most people don’t know a lot about what you do and what they’re up against.

So Lawyers…. make your videos accordingly!

Let’s Recap

How do you create the right videos for Facebook Ads?

  • Make videos longer than 30 seconds
  • Don’t worry about making your videos less entertaining
  • Be sure you create educational videos that help them understand what to do next (and what they’re up against)
