How to Market Your Law Firm
Hi Lawyers, in this video I’m talking about how to market your law firm. I’m so sorry to say I’m locked up in quarantine with Covid so my video is coming to you from inside my closet today!
I’m citing Lawyerist here, and going over what they say and my opinion to help you understand better how to market your law firm.
First of all I’m citing this url as my reference and I’ll put it in the description below wherever you’re taking in this information:
Today I’m going through what Lawyerist says about starting law firm marketing.
The first thing Lawyerist says in this article is that you should have a strategy “before committing to a marketing plan”.
So let’s look at a simple way that I look at strategy for my law firms.
My Strategy
My strategy varies by practice area. Some practice areas will be a lot easier than others. And when I say easier I mean that it will be less effort, and expense. Let’s go deeper:
This is where I put law firm clients into 2 groups
- “Urgent and know they need a lawyer” and
- “Need more educating and may not know they need a lawyer”.
I divided my strategies into 2 groups. And sometimes certain practice areas fit into both groups.
Knowing that your clients will fit into these 2 groups before they hire you, helps you know how much effort and expense it will be to bring in the ideal client.
Obviously when they know they need a lawyer and they’re in an urgent state of mind it will be less expense and effort than the latter.
Practice areas that take a little longer would be like veteran disability benefits or personal injury clients.
Each practice area has its own set of reasons why the potential client needs more educating.
Marketing Plan
Next the lawyerist wants you to create a marketing plan. First they ask you to step into your clients shoes. This is really good advice.
If you go back to my 2 groups, you’ll have an idea about how much media to create and how much you’ll need to spend to reach your ideal clients.
However, this article doesn’t give you a marketing plan other than talking about branding and a website.
So here is my opinions about branding and websites when you’re first trying marketing:
Branding and Websites
Here’s the thing I have suggested time and time again to law firms, you may not need branding or a website at first.
If you are truly testing a strategy, having simple educational materials can make a website completely obsolete.
Here’s what I mean, if advertising on Facebook you don’t want them to leave Facebook. You can utilize simple educational materials that have nothing to do with your brand or an expensive website.
Now I love more than anything building you a brand and a website.
Having a beautifully branded website is really important to most firms to establish you in your community. But branding and a website is not crucial to getting clients right away.
